This piece was inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which repairs broken vessels with real gold powder, mixed with resin. The restored vessels thus become more valuable in their repaired state, than when they were unbroken and ‘perfect’.

The Global pandemic has caused so much brokenness in our societies and yet, out of this painful time, have come some amazing demonstrations of compassion, kindness and hope, as this common enemy, sent to divide us, has caused us to come closer together in wonderful displays of community. The piece is also a ‘prophetic’ glimpse into a future where that brokenness is restored and we are made better for having walked through this experience together.
