Testing a new installation by Claire Harrison

I’ve been working on this installation for some time. It’s a large helium balloon with dim light that is intended to be suspended in total darkness with a continual soundtrack of many voices, all ages and languages, overlaid onto the soundtrack of NASA’s ‘Sounds of the Planets’. Here’s the first test of the light-ballon, without helium. It’s still a bit too bright….

Making…. by Claire Harrison

I’m making a new box to add to the slate piece I started a while ago (see post from 25th March….eek, has it really taken me this long to come back to this piece!). There’s something magical about the relationship of gold leaf to slate. One is mundane, ubiquitous and dull, yet earthy and necessary. The other is bright, shiny, rare, valuable and purely decorative. But when they meet, each transforms the other and makes something rich and evocative.
